VR portfolio: rebuilding a lab classroom

A teammate and I recreated one of our university lab classrooms in VR for a Michigan extended-reality course, then added interactive elements on top.

For my VR course at Michigan, a teammate and I recreated one of our lab classrooms and added some fun elements into it. The goal was to get the room recognisable first — proportions, fixtures, the layout you’d actually walk through — and only then start bending it.

The interesting problem turned out to be scale. A room modelled to correct real-world dimensions still feels wrong in a headset if the eye height is off by even a little, and no amount of texture work compensates for that. Getting the camera rig right did more for presence than anything else we tried.
