AR portfolio: a tree-planting game

Built a two-person augmented reality game where you plant and tend trees anchored to real surfaces around you, for a Michigan XR course.

For the AR half of the course, a teammate and I built a tree-planting game. You point your phone at the ground, plant something, and come back to tend it.

AR punishes you in ways VR doesn’t. In VR you own the whole world; in AR you’re a guest in someone else’s, and that world has bad lighting, featureless carpet, and no reliable sense of where the floor is. Most of our effort went into handling the moments when plane detection simply gave up — which is a product problem as much as a technical one, because the player still has to be told something useful.
